I'll be honest. I actually picked this book up (which was recommended to me) because I know a Paul who has an ex named Kyle. It took me a while to get into - everything seemed too easy, a little too fantastical until the conflict actually started. Once it did, I really got into the book and into the characters, and what had seemed too easy started to seem enlightened and beautiful. In a way it reminds me of Francesca Lia Block's books, where everything is in a heightened reality where things like a drag queen quarterback and a teenager who know just who he is and what he wants exist naturally.
